Lukas Ambros has made his senior debut for the Czech Republic national team. The Anderlecht midfielder started in Tuesday's 1-2 Nations League defeat to Croatia and played for 67 minutes.
Ambros, who moved to Brussels this summer, was substituted for Matej Radosta in the 67th minute. The match ended in disappointment for the Czechs despite an equaliser from Adam Karabec. Luka Modric put Croatia ahead shortly after half-time before Marco Pasalic scored the winner in the 77th minute. The Czech Republic remains without a point in a group that also features Spain and England.
For the 22-year-old Ambros, it is a significant personal milestone following his first months at Anderlecht. He has already featured several times this season for the Brussels club, which currently sits fifth in the Jupiler Pro League with 13 points from 7 games. Their recent domestic form is strong with three wins from the last five league matches.
The player himself reflected on his debut afterwards. "Verdient Lukas Ambros na zijn debuut snel opnieuw een basisplaats bij Tsjechië?" Ambros pondered.
For Anderlecht, this international experience represents positive development for one of their new signings. The club now turns its focus back to the league, with an away fixture against Cercle Brugge next on the schedule. Fans can check the full fixtures list and the current standings. Ambros is expected to be available again soon for manager Brian Riemer, who can call upon a midfielder now tested at the top level. The next club match is in just over a week.
