Kasper Dolberg has suffered a serious knee injury during a training session with the Denmark national team. The former Anderlecht striker, who had just returned to the international squad for the first time in a year, has immediately returned to his club Ajax.
Head coach Brian Riemer, a familiar figure in Brussels from his time at Anderlecht, expressed significant concern over the forward's condition. "I can say we've never seen anything like this," Riemer told the Danish press. "This is quite severe." He further described the situation as "a real drama". The exact nature and duration of the injury have not been disclosed. Ajax confirmed the news via a post on X on Tuesday, stating that further information would follow through their own channels.
For Dolberg, this is a major setback in his second spell at Ajax. He had started the season well personally, scoring three goals and providing three assists in nine matches. His return to the Denmark setup, on the eve of a new Nations League campaign featuring matches against Norway and Portugal, has now been cut short.
The injury comes as Anderlecht themselves are finding good form. The Brussels side sits fifth in the Jupiler Pro League with 13 points from seven games and secured a 3-0 win against Zulte Waregem last Saturday. Riemer's Denmark squad, meanwhile, has already had to send five players home since the group assembled on Monday. The Danish selection also includes other players with links to the Belgian league, such as Andreas Jungdal and Joakim Maehle.
For Ajax and the Danish federation, the focus now shifts to awaiting medical results. It is unclear how many matches Dolberg will be sidelined for. Anderlecht, meanwhile, turn their attention back to the league, with an away fixture against Cercle Brugge scheduled for October 10th. The full schedule can be found on our fixtures page, while the current league table and recent form of WLWDW are available in the standings.
