The RSC Anderlecht squad has returned to training this week following a holiday period during the international break. The team is preparing for the league restart on October 10th with an away match against Cercle Brugge, pitting the fifth-placed side against the team in seventeenth.
Head coach Vitor Bruno allowed his players time to recuperate after a busy summer featuring an early European campaign. The first session took place during a fan day, where supporters enjoyed a brass band and collected autographs. Former player Nathan De Cat was present in the stands.
Responsibility
Goalkeeper Colin Coosemans explained that while the break was appreciated, the players understood their obligations. "We beseffen goed en wel waarom we ze kregen, maar er hingen ook bepaalde verantwoordelijkheden aan vast om superfit terug te komen," said the keeper. He spent the time with his family, often standing at the school gates.
Individual maintenance
Belgian youth international Marco Kana maintained his fitness levels individually. "Ik moest me onderhouden. Ik ken mijn lichaam en weet dat ik bezig moet blijven," stated Kana. "Ik had wel het cadeautje dat de paus in Frankrijk was, dus ik ben vrijdag naar het Stade de France gegaan om met 80.000 jongeren te bidden."
Anderlecht return to action on the back of a run of three wins, one draw and one defeat in their last five matches. Their most recent victory was a 3-0 home win against Zulte Waregem on September 19th. The club currently sits fifth with 13 points from seven games, six points behind leaders Union Saint-Gilloise. The full standings and fixtures schedule are available.
The next challenge is an away fixture against Cercle Brugge on October 10th. In the previous meeting on March 22nd this year, Anderlecht lost 2-3 at home. Preparations are now fully focused on that return to Jupiler Pro League action.
