RSC Anderlecht played out a goalless draw against KRC Genk in the Jupiler Pro League this past Sunday. Meanwhile, midfielder Cedric Hatenboer looked back on his transfer to the Brussels club in an interview.
The match at Lotto Park produced few clear-cut chances. Anderlecht came closest to scoring just before halftime, but Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, who recently joined Liverpool but is on loan this season, made a key save. Reporters from BRUZZ noted the young keeper was key to preserving the clean sheet. After the break, Genk hit the post through Rafiu Durosinmi, but a real breakthrough never materialised. The result does little to help Anderlecht's league position. The club currently sits eleventh with seven points from five matches. They have scored three goals and conceded five. The gap to leaders AA Gent has already grown to eight points. The full standings can be found here.
Cedric Hatenboer gave a candid interview to Voetbal International about his move from Excelsior to Anderlecht in the summer of 2025. The 21-year-old midfielder revealed the negotiations ultimately came down to a two-horse race. "It was then only between PSV and Anderlecht," Hatenboer told the Dutch outlet. He explained that many other Eredivisie clubs dropped out due to Excelsior's financial demands. "When those clubs then start outbidding each other, three-quarters of the Eredivisie drops out," the player said. Hatenboer eventually chose Anderlecht, but his time there did not go as planned. He played little and was loaned to Telstar. The manager who signed him was sacked soon after, according to him.
The draw against Genk highlights the team's inconsistent start to the season. With a record of two wins, one draw, and two losses, the squad needs to find more consistency quickly. The defence kept a clean sheet, but the attack lacked sharpness. Focus now immediately shifts to the next challenge. Anderlecht travels to the AFAS Stadium on Friday, September 11th for a match against KV Mechelen. Mechelen are fifteenth in the table. The full schedule can be viewed on the fixtures page. A win is needed to start moving up the standings.
