RSC Anderlecht currently sits eleventh in the Jupiler Pro League with seven points from five matches after a 0-0 draw against KRC Genk this weekend. The Brussels club is reviewing various internal developments, including a departed midfielder, the role of youth players, and recent league results.

Cedric Hatenboer left RSC Anderlecht for Sparta Rotterdam this summer, despite interest from several clubs. PSV, FC Utrecht, FC Groningen, sc Heerenveen, Lommel SK, and even Greek top club Panathinaikos inquired about the 20-year-old Dutchman. The technically skilled midfielder, however, never got a chance in the purple-and-white first team.

Hatenboer himself stated that playing time was the decisive factor for his choice. "I knew very quickly that I wanted to return to the Netherlands, to a league I know," he said. At Sparta Rotterdam, he hopes to find his rhythm again in the Eredivisie, a league he considers educational. The transfer was completed for a fee of around one million euros, with a sell-on percentage of forty percent on the profit for Anderlecht.

Coach Vitor Bruno recently praised the youth academy, but some talents may start playing more for the RSCA Futures in the Challenger Pro League. Young players like Joshua Nga Kana, Jayden Onia Seke, Noa Ojea, and Noa Kalonji impressed during European qualifiers, but the context has changed.

The reserve team is second from bottom in 1B with just one point from four matches. Coach Jelle Coen has a challenging task, partly because players like Zoumana Keita and Kaïs Barry are often with the A-squad. The risk of relegation for the Futures is real, which the club wants to avoid. Sending some youth players back temporarily to strengthen the reserve team is being considered, although this does not seem intended for individuals like Mario Stroeykens.

Anderlecht played to a 0-0 draw against KRC Genk at the Lotto Park on Sunday evening. Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, who recently secured a transfer to Liverpool, was a key factor with several key saves. New signings Tawfik Bentayeb and Ilias Koutsoupias started for the first time.

The Brussels side came close to a goal just before halftime, but Brughmans saved a shot from the new Moroccan striker. In the second half, Genk hit the post through Rafiu Durosinmi, while Anderlecht threatened through Enric Llansana and Ali Maamar. The draw does little to help either team in the table. Anderlecht's current position, with a goal difference of three scored and five conceded, requires improvement. The full standings can be followed online.

On Thursday evening, Anderlecht secured a narrow 1-0 victory over bottom-placed KV Kortrijk in a catch-up match. Danylo Sikan scored the only goal two minutes before halftime following an assist from Ali Maamar. The win moved the record champions to tenth place, but the performance level was lacking.

Despite a bright start and chances for Sikan, the game fizzled out afterwards. Kortrijk even came close to an equalizer in the second half with a shot that hit the post. The three points were welcome, but the performance provided little reassurance for the supporters. The recent form of purple-and-white has been inconsistent. The upcoming fixtures are key, starting with an away match against KV Mechelen on September 11th.

Anderlecht is eleventh in the Jupiler Pro League with seven points from five games. The team has two wins, one draw, and two losses. The goal difference is minus two. The gap to leaders AA Gent is eight points.

An additional concern is the absence of Lucas Hey, who is currently injured. His status can be followed on the injuries page. Coach Vitor Bruno's squad must recover after an inconsistent start. The next test is a visit to fifteenth-placed KV Mechelen on Friday, September 11, 2026.
