Tawfik Bentayeb was taken to hospital for examination following Anderlecht's victory over Zulte Waregem. The forward suffered a heavy head collision with an opponent during the match and later requested to be substituted.
Manager Vítor Bruno confirmed after the 3-0 win that the player had been taken for checks. "His attacker was taken to hospital for examination," the coach said. "The club wanted to rule out that Bentayeb had sustained more serious injury from the collision."
Before his early exit, Bentayeb had played a key role in the victory. He opened the scoring himself in the 40th minute and provided the assist for Marten Winkler's 2-0. He was also involved in the build-up to the third goal. The 3-0 win last Saturday keeps Anderlecht firmly in the top five of the Jupiler Pro League, with 13 points from 7 games.
The timing of the injury is unfortunate for the 22-year-old striker, who joined from Troyes last summer for around €4.5 million. He is on the preliminary squad list of Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi for an upcoming national team training camp. His condition will be monitored closely in the coming days.
Anderlecht now look ahead to their next match away to Cercle Brugge on October 10th. The opponent currently sits 17th. The full standings and upcoming fixtures can be found on our site.
