Greek midfielder Ilias Koutsoupias made his official debut for RSC Anderlecht at the age of 25. The player, who joined from Italian side Frosinone, came on as a substitute in a Jupiler Pro League match 2026.
Koutsoupias previously signed a two-year contract with the Brussels club. His transfer was delayed by a deal involving Thelo Aasgaard and could only be finalized after the registration deadline for the Europa League league phase had passed. This means he is ineligible to play in that European competition this season.
Ilias Koutsoupias entered the pitch as a replacement for Enric Llansana. During his debut, he wore noticeable bright orange boots. The midfielder showed himself to be comfortable on the ball immediately and provided depth in Anderlecht's play. Just before halftime, he was involved in a key chance. His substitute appearance ended after a strong tackle on Bryan Heynen, after which he was substituted off.
The new signing received a standing ovation from the home fans upon his introduction. Head coach Vitor Bruno later reacted to this by saying, "Status doesn't count for me." The exact transfer fee for Koutsoupias was not disclosed.
Anderlecht currently sits eleventh in the Jupiler Pro League. The club has six points from four matches, with two wins and two losses. The goal difference is minus two, with three goals scored and five conceded. The recent form is WLLW. In the title race, Anderlecht trails leaders Union St. Gilloise by seven points.
An important absentee from the squad is Lucas Hey, who is currently injured. The full current squad can be consulted online. The next league match is scheduled for September 11, 2026, an away game against KV Mechelen. That opponent occupies fifteenth place in the standings. The full schedule can be found on the fixtures page.
The arrival of the Greek midfielder provides coach Bruno with additional options in the center of the park. His profile as a comfortable ball-player who seeks depth could be an addition to the existing midfield. His ineligibility for Europa League matches means his minutes will primarily come in the domestic league and the Belgian Cup.
The team's performances can be followed live via the stats page, which contains all current figures. The position in the standings remains a key focus, especially with the gap to the leaders. Anderlecht plays its next home match after the fixture against Mechelen.
