Anderlecht is set to make the longest European trip ever, to Almaty in Kazakhstan. The club will play in the Ortalyq Stadium on Thursday at 17:00 and will then spend 9 hours in the air. The trip is an absolute outskirt of Europe, bordering China, 5,200 kilometers from Brussels.
The club has a comprehensive plan to minimize the impact of the trip. The performance staff of Anderlecht has a plan worked out for all players, using glasses that filter blue light, compression socks, activation exercises and beauty sleep.
The club will, however, be in relatively limited company on the plane to Kazakhstan. Due to the high season for vacations, the number of available planes was limited. Moreover, the Brussels-based team needed a plane that could cover the distance to Almaty.
According to reports, 15 brave fans will also embark on the journey. In any case, they will be firmly in the underbelly on Thursday evening in the Ortalyq Stadium, which has 23,000 seats.
Anderlecht is currently 8th in the Jupiler Pro League, with 3 points, 1 win, 0 draws and 1 loss from 2 games. The club is 3 points behind leader Club Brugge KV.
