Anderlecht is looking for extra speed on the flank and has the name of Marin Šotiček on the radar. The 21-year-old Croat plays for FC Basel and is an interesting option for Anderlecht. Šotiček is young, fast, technically gifted and can play on both flanks. He is right-footed, but played often on the left flank at his previous club Lokomotiva Zagreb. There, he could come inside and shoot himself. On the right, he can use his speed and deliver crosses. Basel paid around three million euros to Lokomotiva Zagreb and gave him a four-year contract immediately. But his numbers are meager and he has not fully broken through at Basel. One assist and no league goal: that's little for an attacking player. In Switzerland, he is not written off yet. Blick pointed out a few months ago that Šotiček scored impressively in actions with the ball. He is not always decisive, but his actions with the ball are important. He can make meters, eliminate opponents and set up attacks. Only the final pass or the goal is missing for now. In Croatia, they saw those decisive actions too. At Lokomotiva Zagreb, Šotiček really broke through two seasons ago. He was then one of the young players who were closely followed in the HNL. His best matches came when there was space. He lives from speed. Take the ball, speed up, cut inside and finish. At Basel, he got chances, but he became a regular starter. There were moments when he showed why Basel signed him, but too few matches where he dispelled all doubts. In the cup final last season against Biel-Bienne, he was important. Basel won 1-4 and took the double. Šotiček scored from just outside the 16 and set his club on the way to the double. Anderlecht must ask itself if Šotiček is ready to make a difference in Brussels immediately. Paars-wit has brought in young players with potential in the past, but not every transfer has worked out. Especially on the flank, Anderlecht has been looking for more speed, more depth and more efficiency for a long time. Šotiček can fit in there, but he is no certainty. The question is also how much Basel wants for him. The Swiss paid around three million euros themselves. His market value is lower today than his purchase price. FootballTransfers estimates him between 1.7 and 2.6 million euros, Transfermarkt sets him around two million euros. That does not mean that Basel will let him go for that amount. With his contract until 2028, Basel has the most power in the negotiations.
