Anderlecht has kicked off a new season with a new approach. The club has brought in five Portuguese and a Frenchman to shape its future.
What happened?
Chairman Wouter Vandenhaute has been replaced by Michael Verschueren and CEO Sports Tim Borguet and CEO Non-Sports Isabelle Vanden Eede have made way for one full-fledged CEO: Kenneth Bornauw. The sports director is no longer Olivier Renard but Antoine Sibierski. Also, head scout Dries Belaen was replaced by David Verwilghen. Anderlecht has reappointed Jean Kindermans as head of the academy and completed his metamorphosis.
Why is this important for Anderlecht?
With all these changes, you would expect a lot of chaos at the start of the new season, but the opposite is true. Instead of pumping tens of millions into the club again, which is not planned, owner Marc Coucke has cleaned up – or had his CEO clean up. Bornauw has been allowed to assemble the new team since his reinstatement in November, with shorter lines, like at Union.
What's next?
Anderlecht is currently 4th in the Jupiler Pro League, with 25 points from 32 games, and has a recent form of WLLLD. The club has scored 48 goals and conceded 44 goals, with a goal difference of +4. Anderlecht is 14 points behind leader Union St. Gilloise. The next match is against KV Mechelen, on February 13, 2027, at home. Currently, Nathan-Dylan Saliba, Cedric Hatenboer, Ilay Camara, Killian Sardella, and Lucas Hey are sidelined due to injuries.
